#30DaysofScooting: Soggy Scoot to Sammamish State Park

It was damp and drizzling this morning, but as is often the case here, the rain wasn't heavy, more of a light, intermittent misting. I set out on my scooter for Sammamish State Park. The paths were damp but my tires & shoes are sufficiently grippy handle the conditions with ease.

The park has various signs explaining the history and ecology of the area.

Slugs love the soggy spring weather.

On sunny days, it's a lot more crowded here.

The birds don't mind the damp.

Obviously illiterate or scofflaw birds.

The view north.

I scoot on the paved paths and hike in the places where I can't scoot.

My pals on Twitter identified these birds as Chinese Swan Geese.

I hiked the trails to the north end of the park where they are constructing a new parking area at the boat launch.

I scooted back home along the bumpy sidewalk, happy to see the progress being made on the paving of the rail trail. It looks like they should be done soon,

About five miles of scooting this morning and a couple of miles of hiking.

Keep 'em rolling,

How does your scooter handle the bumpy sidewalks?

With the 6" rubber tires and the steel frame, the KickPed does a pretty good job of soaking up the bumps. I do try to find the smoothest surfaces I can, however. The worst so far was been a boardwalk where the boards were basically the same width as the tire diameter. That felt like riding a jackhammer!

you do make the longer trips sound doable. i'm looking at a 4-mile commute in traffic with sidewalks or bike lanes the whole way. i'm scared to get my bike out on the street, so this scooter idea is sounding more and more appealing.

How do you like the trail gloves for scooting and walking now that you've used it for a while? Are they good for you walking on concrete or only in trails? Do you still like the minimalist shoe for scooting? I'm looking for a shoe that balances between everyday walking and scooting.

Hi Rishi O.,

I love the Trail Gloves and the are by far my favorite shoes now. I wear them for scootering, general walking and hiking. For long bike rides I prefer something with a stiffer sole but for everything else the Trail Gloves are great.
