#30DaysofBiking: Not Far Distant

This is not far distant, a few pedal strokes really, past a sign that says "NO PARKING" and a gate at the edge of the asphalted world. The path is rocky, the morning fog still ghosting in the branches. The small voices of a billion droplets are the loudest chorus here, louder than the thousand urgent things awaiting my return. I'm not here long, long enough to pause until the cold reminds me to move on.

Urgency comes in many forms -- the work we've taken on, droplets obeying gravity, a chill fog working its way past layers of nylon and wool. Sometimes you are not parked, but paused, at a place not far distant. And then you wake from something even more restful than sleep, stomp the cold from your feet, the chill from your legs and roll down a bit further down the path.

Keep 'em rolling,

Great picture and wonderful post! I could use some more "Not Far Distant" places myself.

Looks like you're enjoying having the Octocog back! Thanks so much for the use of that bike -- it was extremely valuable to have a bike while mine was disassembled, and that's a FUN bike! Can't wait to get out on the trails with you again.
