Battery-Free LED Pedals

OK, these are cheap plastic pedals that probably won't hold up to any serious use. But when I saw this $17 pair of pedals at my local Target store I just had to buy them. And in case you are wondering, no I usually don't buy bike stuff at Target but I just can't resist cruising the aisle devoted to what my friends at Dirt Rag refer to as "bike-shaped objects."

Here's the deal, these pedals have a little built-in generator that makes six red LEDs light up each time the pedal goes around. They look really cool in the dark, cooler than having $17 in my wallet. So far I can't figure out how to attach Power Grips to these pedals and I don't think they'll replace my MKS Touring Pedals. I'll probably wind up putting them on my son's bike or the loaner bike at the Bike Alliance.

I just saw those too on Saturday and gave them some good thought. I saw something similar on a Trek hybrid, but these really blink all over the place.

The phrase "bike-shaped objects" is the funniest thing I've heard all week!

I admit that I have bought a pair of LED valve stem covers from Target, but haven't tried them out yet.

I've bought ten dollar helmets at Target and been satisfied with them. They appear to meet the same safety requirements as Lance's helmet for a whole lot less dough.

Wow... a lot cheaper than the Pedalite's and you can actually GET them. Pedalite has been claiming for MONTHS that they're going to have some in stock soon, and perhaps *GASP*, even some SPD compatible models. These look a good deal flimsier so now I'm curious: will they hold up to the average kid abuse? Please post feedback when you get some! Love your blog!

LED Safety Bicycle Pedals at Glowspek.. these are the patented ones ... the ones on Target are not the good ones.. Glowspek has them with 8 LEDs www.glowspek.com The ones on target have only 4 LEDs...

We got a pair of GlowSpek ones. The ones on the GlowSpek must be newer than ours because ours has a total of 6 LED's - 2 on each side of the pedal built into the reflector and then 2 that you can see on the side. We paid $17 for them at a local bike store. Haven't tried them out yet but they look good in theory. It would be nice if we could get some for SPD pedals.

I live in Houston Tx and am one of those few rare bike commuters in North America. I got a pair of these almost four years ago and love them! They are perfect for street riding in an urban environment. I ride an average of 100+ mile a week and for early morning, evening, or night time riding I love the added visability.
