Barack Obama Spoke Card

As I mentioned previously on this blog, I'm supporting Senator Obama in the current presidential race. The recent proposals by Senators McCain and Clinton for a summer gas tax holiday, which Senator Obama opposes, are just more evidence to me that I'm backing the candidate most aligned with my personal values. And, as near as I know, he's the only candidate with his own spoke card. I went to:

http://obamaspoke.com/?

and sent them a buck. A few days later I got this spoke card in the mail.

I certainly understand that not everyone shares my political views and I hunted around the web looking for Clinton or McCain spoke cards, but I came up empty. So if you support one of those candidates (or Ron Paul or whomever) and you come up with a spoke card, post a link to it in the comment section here. There are a lot of cyclists out there. We don't have bumpers, but we do have spokes. And a lot of us vote.

Keep 'em rolling.

I used to enjoy it when you wrote about cycling.

Man, I miss those days.

Your writing seems triste, since.

Ya know, I might just have to order myself a couple of those too :) Nice decor.

I'm riding a Big Dummy these days and I've been thinking about hanging a rally sign on the side of the freeloaders.

You vote? How novel.

After 2+ years of election news coverage by the media, I'm just going to wait until there's a military takeover.

I think I'll stick to talking politics :). But I've never been a fan of bumper stickers on cars either.

I hope your transition to the new job goes well. I miss hearing about your adventures.

Wow, the anonymous commenters are turning on you kent, you must be doing something right.

Anyhow. I just ordered one for me yesterday. I am holding off on my final decision who to vote for until I see who is better at riding a fixie with 6" wide bars and no brakes in the city of their convention. Later

I'm feeling the audacity to be hopeless following the story of the mugging in I-90 tunnel

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2004418385_bikemugging16m.html

I guess you're glad that's not on your commute anymore. There's a lot of political complexity in this story. Something about a society should be judged by how it treats its weakest members. Who's weak here, the cycle commuter or the teenage boys who beat him up?

Argh. hopeless.

Just ordered enough of those cards for all the bike commuters in my office. Lotsa Democrats (and Lefties grudgingly voting Democrat) in the office here.

I ride through the I-90 tunnel several times a week between 5 and 7 pm. I've never considered that I could get mugged in there. I will now.

Beyond their adolescent disregard for the welfare of the guy they robbed, I'm guessing those kids don't have a clue how much trouble they could get in if they're caught -- like adult prison if they're tried as adults or turn 18 before their sentence is up.

Here's hoping Bob Cornwell's peace of mind is restored quickly and that something short of prison turns those kids around before they hurt anyone else and before their lives really do get hopeless.

Thanks for telling us about this!
I ordered one too.

Will you let us know when you get back to writing about bicycling and bicycles?

Thanks.

I've heard things like that are being produced by HRC and McCain to make O look elitist. Part of a vast right wing conspiracy to put his face on Panther-looking schwag to scare clinging types. Do you think it could be true?

Well ... I for one appreciate your candor Kent. It's cool that you're not afraid to talk about politics and who you align yourself with. I've been a life long republican, however, Mr. Obama is looking more and more like the right choice. It seems I'm about to "change gears" so to speak.

As for the others that say ... "only write about bikes" I say keep writing about whatever comes to mind and what you're passionate about. That's what makes an interesting read ... whatever the subject.

Next up ... push reel mowers. I Just got one ... Do you really need a gasoline engine to cut your grass ? I still drive a car, but this is one simple and effective way to reduce carbon emissions and get some exercise too.

nice. in for one. was already actually but I just saw your post. I think it's hilarious that the "anons" are chaffed that you have the temerity to discuss your political inclination on your blog. NOT EXCELLENT!!

Thanks for the link to the I-90 tunnel mugging. I am in Australia and a land developer here wants to put in a similar length tunnel as a bicycle bypass to their site. The only similar length tunnel in an urban area I have heard of is the I-90 belview. I tried to contact WSDOT for operational experiences but never got in contact with anyone who could help.

I'm even thinking of getting one of those BO spoke cards... the rest of the world is looking forward to some change in the USA. Our government is giving Millions of dollars to Toyota to build a "green car". No car is "Green", electric cars are powered by coal or nuclear power. As a cyclist do you feel better being run over by a petrol hummer or a hydrogen powered hummer? I am thinking of trying to bid for some government "green car" grant money to grow bamboo for cafree style bamboo bike manufacturing. I don't make bikes at the moment but think it will probably be a good post peak oil job.

Cheers!
