Tour de Donut

Wow is this a great idea! I can't quite convince my wife that it's worth a trip to Utah to do this ride (and besides The Fat Cyclist is probably right that he will win it) but by golly we have donut shops in the Pacific Northwest too. Maybe we could talk the Black Diamond Bakery into sponsorship for a Puget Sound version of this race?

Back in 1999 (?) when I lived in Seattle, some friends and I did a Tour de Spud and rode to all 3 Spud Fish and Chips locations. We started at my place on Phinney Ridge, rode around the lake on the B-G trail to the Juanita location, and then made our way through Bellevue, over I-90, and out to the Alki shop. The home stretch took us back up to the Greenlake location. The rule was that we needed to consume something deep fried (or at the very least a milkshake)at each stop. It was glorious, and made for just about a metric century.

No disrespect to the fine folks in Utah, but in Pennsylvania we've had a donut derby for years. And the real kicker is that afterward the Lehigh Wheelmen provide . . .

. . . wait for it . . .

a hot lunch!

I dubbed this ride American Biathlon 9 months ago.

With all the bonuses you get for each donut eaten, my husband just insisted, "I'd finish that race and technically wouldn't even have started it yet!"
