Time: 7:00 pm
Where: At over 120 U.S. locations and eight other countries
Join cyclists worldwide in a silent slow-paced ride (max. 12 mph/19.3 kph) in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways.
So far, rides have been planned for Everett, Renton, Seattle, Tacoma, Vancouver, and Walla Walla. For ride locations and contact info, check the www.rideofsilence.org website.
I like the concept. But it looks like the Seattle & Renton rides will be on rail-trails. I doubt that the majority of cyclist's deaths were on separated Multi-Use-Paths. IMO, It's much better visability for the cause if we're on the streets, with big signs saying what were there for.
ReplyDeletewish I would have come across this a few days earlier. Hope it went well.
ReplyDeleteThe Seattle ride was almost 100% on city streets. I felt it was a great turnout, 100's of riders. We could have used a little corner control at the first light on Stone Way, which really fragmented the group, but otherwise it was great. I got a pic of Kent on the ride near Westlake, but it was a bit too blurry for posting.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I'm thankful to be wrong. I'm glad the Seattle ride was a success.
