Just beware of your considerably reduced ability to brake with narrower tires.Aaronhttp://elton2.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18676999.post-32006074483530889362008-06-06T09:39:00.000-07:002008-06-06T09:39:00.000-07:00Kent, how about some pics of these bikes?I have a ...Kent, how about some pics of these bikes?

I have a Speedcruiser that started life as a Diamondback Transport. I replaced the MTB bars with cruiser style bars, installed a more upright stem, tossed out the indexed twist shifts in favor of Sunrace friction thumbshifters and installed a set of Kenda Kwest 1.5 100 psi tires. I'd rather have the Schwalbes, but the Kendas are cheaper and I had them hanging around.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18676999.post-23213243663984192672008-06-06T00:33:00.000-07:002008-06-06T00:33:00.000-07:00via la Speed Cruiser!Hope all is well Kent. They have the benefit of allowing a person to get their feet flat on the ground when stopped and still have perfect leg extension when riding. This makes bikes way safer for stop-and-go riding.

eddeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18676999.post-8991303606066141852008-06-04T20:02:00.000-07:002008-06-04T20:02:00.000-07:00Pashley and Retrovelo make bikes that fit that des...Pashley and Retrovelo make bikes that fit that description, but they're expensive and hard to find in the U.S. (Clever Cycles now carries Retrovelo.)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18676999.post-84875415765222856032008-06-04T16:06:00.000-07:002008-06-04T16:06:00.000-07:00kent, this sounds like the ideal job for you. i li...kent, this sounds like the ideal job for you.

i like the term "speed cruiser". add an absurd amount of cargo capacity, and you have described my Kogswell p/r, which, it must be noted, I got from Beth H's shop.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18676999.post-88441630014316154592008-06-04T07:15:00.000-07:002008-06-04T07:15:00.000-07:00We do numerous jobs like that at Wright Bros too. ...We do numerous jobs like that at Wright Bros too. People digging an old MTB out of the garage, the shed, a pile of leaves, or from a dumpster and wanting to start riding it again. Refurbing them costs too, but it's worth it I tell them.

They do make good city commuter bikes too, pretty durable frames, and beefy tires (Schwalbe Speed Cruiser) that take the beating from these streets in Seattle.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18676999.post-22792632687620572602008-06-02T21:31:00.000-07:002008-06-02T21:31:00.000-07:00This is what my shop has been doing ever since 199...This is what my shop has been doing ever since 1998, when the pendulum swung back to road bikes and we needed to figure out what to do with all the old hardtail ATB's no one wanted anymore. Taller stem, swept-back bars, slicks and fenders, and suddenly they're Citybikes. And the nicest part is that people want them again.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18676999.post-27923123490920681532008-06-02T18:57:00.000-07:002008-06-02T18:57:00.000-07:00A bike just for ridin' around ... now that's a nov...A bike just for ridin' around ... now that's a novel idea. My wife and I even took a pair like that over to the Netherlands where we sold them for about what we had in them. They're rugged.
